Lillie P. Allen, MPH, is the Founder of Be Present, Inc., and the creator and lead developer of the Be Present Empowerment Model®, a transformative process for sustaining dialogue, learning, and practice in addressing the impact of race, gender, class, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and power on personal and collective well-being and effectiveness. A nationally recognized trainer and social-change activist, she has been involved in public-health education and the movement for social justice for more than 40 years.
Her groundbreaking workshop, “Black & Female: What Is the Reality?”, presented at the First National Conference on Black Women’s Health Issues in 1983 at Spelman College, drew more than 1,000 Black women and helped catalyze a national movement, leading to the 1988 Sisters & Allies® initiative and the 1992 incorporation of Be Present, Inc. Lillie earlier served as Director of National Training and Workshops for the National Black Women’s Health Project and founded the Lillie Allen Institute. She holds a Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
