Be Present Celebrates  25th Anniversary in 2017

34 years ago, in 1983, Black women and girls established roots for a social movement and created a legacy of leadership for justice that is inclusive of all people. This movement laid the foundation for Be Present, Inc.

25 years ago, in 1992, Be Present, Inc. was created to advance a more just society by supporting people to be effective leaders in creating thriving families, schools, workplaces, and communities.

Moving Forward in Action Together

Be Present, Inc.’s Black & Female Leadership Initiative highlights the leadership of Black women and girls in collaborating with people with diverse backgrounds to build social justice movements and create sustainable change that serves everyone in our communities. This legacy of leadership to this day serves as a replicable model for creating a diverse, inclusive, and equitable world in which all people can thrive.

Through the course of the past 25 years as an institution and 34 years as a movement, we as a diverse national network of social justice leaders with connections among different movements across generations have gathered numerous lesson learned and best practices. In 2017 and 2018, Be Present, Inc.’s gatherings will focus on sharing innovations for how to move through issues of race, gender, ethnicity, social class, language, age, religion, sexual/gender identity and their intersections and sustain authentic partnerships for social action and change. Join us!

Black & Female Leadership Institute, Session 6

Fayetteville State University

1200 Murchison Road

Fayetteville, NC   28301

The Black & Female Leadership Institute is an 18-month training series (six sessions) that convenes Black women and girls from diverse backgrounds in a community of practices to explore what it means to be Black and female in our culture; identify intersecting issues that have an impact on our lives; develop systems of support; strengthen leadership; and build effective partnerships across differences.

In October 2015, Be Present, Inc. aligned with Fayetteville State University in North Carolina for the first training session. FSU is one of the historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs). We participated in the Homecoming Parade, Wellness Ambassadors and other campus events, as well as the launch of My Sister’s Keeper. Deep appreciations to Letitia Johnson-Arnold, MS, CHES, Medical and Health Program Consultant in Student Health Services for her leadership in building this partnership.

Session 6 is the final session of the 18-month training series of the Black & Female Leadership Institute. We are excited to share that it will once again be held on the campus of Fayetteville State University and coincide with FSU’s 150th year anniversary. We will participate in the Homecoming Parade as well as campus events that include Wellness Ambassadors and My Sister’s Keeper.
