Effecting Achievement and Equity in Education Initiative

Youth – Adult Partnerships in Action

Children and youth have an essential role in creating positive change in their own lives, families, schools and communities. Children and youth bring new ideas and energy – and we need it. Since Be Present’s inception, children and youth have had a leading role in the circle – bringing their voices to important issues, offering valuable insights, and modeling important skills such as self-empowerment, active listening, and creating supportive relationships. Through our intentional engagement of children and youth, we ensure the work being done is not only “for” youth, but “by youth” – inclusive of youth voice, perspective and leadership.

The organization’s holistic approach to youth development engages children, youth and adults in a co-learning process in all trainings, community organizing and governance. We know, as recent studies have affirmed, that Youth-Adult partnerships are a key strategy for youth development; optimizing adolescent health and empowerment.

These partnerships are also foundational to our education system – an area that Be Present is addressing through its five-year Effecting Achievement and Equity in Education Initiative, that engages all levels of the education ecosystem (students, parents/caregivers, teachers, administrators and youth-serving and community leaders) in collaboration to address barriers to access and inclusive participation.

The initiative encompasses a range of experiential learning and leadership development trainings including a trip to Guatemala to facilitate a session at Escuela Caracol, an Intercultural Waldorf school; a series of creative leadership sessions; and an 18-month training institute.

We are seeking partners in this ground-breaking initiative.
